Palestine, song, flute, piano, Laila Atshan

Uploaded by on Mar 3, 2009

In some areas of life and in some situations I like the simple things, the songs, the playing on an instrument that suddenly is there out of an unexpected meeting - full of charm and vitality, although maybe not with the perfect touch that more time to repeat the song or tune before recording might give.

In this way these recordings were made, and in this way the photos I took in Palestine from 1978 til 1994 shall be seen, and in the same way one may look at the photos of the singing and playing Laila Atshan, last time she was in Denmark visiting me and other friends here.

So the photos are of and the flute, piano and song is by Laila Atshan, Psychosocial Consultant and Trainer, Ramallah, Palestine.

Laila Atshan is blind. She has worked with rehabilitation of traumatized persons in Palestine, but also in countries like Sudan, Irak and Denmark.

The photos from Palestine are as mentioned from 1978 onward and I want them to show the beauty of the so to say essential Palestine, which once was and still survives under the struggle against occupation.

The photos from Denmark are from Laila Atshans latest visit to Denmark February 2009.

The bedouin song is from the Jericho area. The photos from Palestine are from Jericho, Jerusalem, Bethlehem, Beit Sahour, Gaza, Deishe, the mountains near Hebron, Ein Al-Sultan, Jaffa. Those from Denmark from Øster Hurup, Himmerland.

Photos and recording with simple equipment under simple, improvised circumstances february 2009.

This book with Laila Atshan has been published in Denmark, spring 2011:
"Palæstinas Røde Rose. Laila Atshan", NordØsten Forlag NordOsten Books, http://www.nordosten.dk/E-boeger.html
